Are large retail formats responsible for food price inflation in India?
This is a question that’s on the minds of millions of mostly middle-class Indians who have seen food cost rising considerably in the recent past.
Retail formats in India is fast changing. The corner-shops (or neighbourhood kiranas) have not yet vanished, but the common man is shifting to branded large- and small- retailers tick-off his/her complete shopping list including food ingredients, vegetables, stationary, bed & bath and maybe even basic electronics and furniture without cutting through crowded streets. It is convenient and all the more comfortable. But it is turning out to be an increasing expensive affair.
Prices — of food grains, ready foods, vegetables and fruits — have risen by at the least 50% in the last five years. Are the bigger establishments solely responsible for this?
Blogs as an easy publishing medium
I’m back into blogging and this time with tumblr. I’ve never been an avid blogger especially at my blogs on blogger.com. This time, it’s more like wanting to use blogs as a easy publishing platform which gives quite a lot of publicity.
Take a look at blogs you’ve been surfing. Be it on blogger, wordpress or typepad, 95% blogs are more like photo posts. People just find blogs a ready-made tool for sharing without the hassles of picking up the murky details of web technology. No domain management, no XHTML/CSS authoring, no FTP uploads - just write and publish. This is bliss. And I wish to get back to this bliss.
So, let’s see how it goes for me this time! But I don’t think I will get settled before configuring a custom domain and making my own theme. Some habits are just too hard to let go!
